“I may be dating myself, but my tale begins in 1994. I had planned (before I became a travel agent) a dream vacation to DisneyWorld for my husband, 4 year old son and me. Throughout the years, I had always stayed with my family at offsite resorts. With my intense budget planning, I decided to stay at an inexpensive, but what I thought would be a very nice accommodation near Disney. When my family arrived in Florida, we were so excited about staying in a “suite”. We found the accommodations to be sub-standard. There was litter everywhere and trash in the pool. What we found in our “suite” later that night would surprise us even more…
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort (One of my top pics for Hotel)
After a busy day at Magic Kingdom, we retired for the evening. Much to our chagrin, my husband spotted several cockroaches throughout the room and in the beds. We were horrified and ended up sleeping in our car that night. The next morning I complained to the offsite hotel and they refunded our money and laundered all our clothes. I knew I had to find another place to stay. I decided I would spend the extra money and go to a Disney resort hotel. I had heard they were extremely clean and they offered the “Disney Difference”! A room was available at Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort. We arrived at the resort and we stood there in awe. The resort was themed so nicely, the rooms were immaculate and the cast members greeted us with stellar service. The resort had a full service restaurant and a food court with many different options, including ones for our finicky 4 year old. The resort had many pools, a water slide, a “beach” area with sand to play in and hammocks along the water and a playground. Also, by staying at a Disney resort, you are entitled to several benefits including transportation to the parks, early/late park entry and Disney’s Magical Express (transfer to/from Orlando Int’l airport). We had found our Shangri-La.
The moral of the story: Even though we spent a few extra dollars, what we got in return, including many happy memories, was priceless. Ever since that vacation in 1994, I have NEVER looked back. Ever since then, I have always stayed at Disney resorts and always will. I highly recommend Disney resorts to my clients. I have been to DisneyWorld over 100 times and have stayed at every one of the resorts. You may think I was unlucky during that trip back in 1994; however, I know I was very lucky to find the “Most Magical Place on Earth”! May all your wishes come true…”
